Hello, this is Wendi Bailey, your Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President with your Weekly Chamber Update.  

We are excited about the 12th Annual Currahee Military Weekend set for October 5th-7th, recently named the Best Downtown Event in Georgia.  Invite your friends and family and help us show off our Currahee Military Museum and Camp Toccoa at Currahee.

  • On Friday, the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will cook, serve and deliver 1,000 chicken plates to our community and out of town guests at the Toccoa First Baptist Church of Toccoa. 
  • Friday afternoon there is a book signing at the train depot.
  • Friday night, the USO Hangar Dance will have a live band, live singing group and live swing dance demonstrations. 
  • Saturday morning over 400 runners and walkers will compete in the Currahee Challenge. 
  • Saturday at 11am, nine returning WWII Camp Toccoa veterans will be in the parade that begins with a parachute jump with the huge American flag and smoke.
  • Georgia National Guard Adjutant General Jim Butterworth will speak at the Opening Ceremonies. During the ceremony 150 new military recruits will be inducted into the US Army.
  • Outside the historic courthouse the re-enactors will set up camps and conduct weapons demonstrations on the hour. Inside the courthouse will be the memorabilia show.
  • Robin Sink McClelland, daughter of Col. Robert F. Sink will attend the festivities. She is the president of the Board of the Trustees of Camp Toccoa at Currahee.
  • Saturday night is the Banquet & Auction and the speaker is Toccoa resident Major General James Guest who served as aide to General Richard Seitz who trained at Camp Toccoa.

Weekly Chamber Update on WNEG AM 630



Hello, this is Wendi Bailey, your Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President with your Weekly Chamber Update.  

Toccoa-Stephens County has lots of opportunity to attract tourists to our 12th annual Currahee Military Weekend set for October 5th-7th, recently named the Best Downtown Event in Georgia. We need your help to invite your friends and family - proudly wear your red, white and blue, and help us show off our Currahee Military Museum and Camp Toccoa at Currahee.

As of right now, participating WWII veterans, who trained at Camp Toccoa, in the parachute infantry regiments include: Carl Beck, Ira Morehart, Ed Shames, Al Mampre, Robert Parks, Robert Wright, James "Pee Wee" Martin, and Mario Patruno.  They will be in the parade that begins after a parachute jump by the Special Forces Parachute Jump Team.  

Our Georgia National Guard Adjutant General Jim Butterworth is the special guest speaker at the Opening Ceremonies.  Robin Sink McClelland, daughter of Col. Robert F. Sink will be attending the weekend festivities and the speaker for the Banquet is Toccoa resident Major General James Guest who served as aide to General Richard Seitz who trained at Camp Toccoa.

The USO Hangar Dance will have the Dave Frye Quartet playing live 40’s music. And, on Saturday the parade will have the High School Indian Band

  • Our Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Celebration will be TODAY at Beverage World with Nic Patel and his team at 10am at their location on Big A Road across from the Java Station. 

  • Don’t forget the NEGA job fair on the 21st hosted by the DOL. There are over 78 employers and resource agencies registered thus far! It’s going to be huge!

·         Thanks to Angie Ramage and Kelly Vickers, the special spotlight on Lake Hartwell includes the Tugaloo Corridor. It will air on September 24th from 7pm-8pm on WYFF, Greenville, SC.  

  • We’re excited about the Lake Hartwell 50th Anniversary Art Exhibit at The Cornerstone! Bryan Westmoreland with assistance from our Tourism Committee will host the exhibit during the month of October.

  • Next Wednesday is the Monthly Member Luncheon new location at BJ’s Restaurant’s new meeting room. Our new Chair Linda Scofield is encouraging you all to attend and bring a date next week!

We are a beautiful, strong, caring, patriotic, successful community – the best hometown in Georgia. Our community is special, and a place to be exceedingly proud of because you and your neighbors live here. You have, can, and will make a positive difference. As we work together to make it better, let’s also remember just how wonderful our community really is.

Weekly CHamber Upddate



Hello, this is Wendi Bailey, your Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce President with your Weekly Chamber Update.  

Toccoa-Stephens County has lots of opportunity to attract tourists to our 12th annual Currahee Military Weekend set for October 5th-7th, recently named the Best Downtown Event in Georgia.

New this year, on Friday the 5th the USO Hangar Dance will have a LIVE band - the Dave Frye Quartet will be playing live 40’s big band music. And, on Saturday the 6th the Currahee Club’s - Currahee Challenge Run/Walk age group winners will receive medals for awards, made by local Pastor Paul Garrison. Our Ribbon Cutting Celebration will be TODAY at Tires of Toccoa. Come celebrate with Mary Tatum and her husband and their team at 10am today at their location on 123 Currahee Street.
  
This afternoon at 5pm the Business-After-Hours will be hosted by Family Connections and Communities in Schools lead by Toni Childress.  The jack pot drawing is at 5:30pm and is $800. You MUST be present to win.
